One of the most common worries we hear from contractors is simple. If something happens to the company that built my site, can I still get to my stuff? It is a fair question, and the answer should never be complicated.
Your website and your marketing are business assets, just like your truck and your tools. You should own them. Here is exactly who owns what when you work with us, in plain English.
The Short Version
You own your website, your content, your domain, and your Google profile. We build and manage them for you. If you ever leave, you take everything with you.
Your website and everything on it
The site we build is yours. The words, the photos, the layout, all of it belongs to you. We design it and we keep it running, but you paid for it, so it is your asset. If you ever decide to move on, we hand over your website files. There is no hostage situation and no surprise rebuild fee.
Your domain name
Your domain (the yourcompany.com part) is your address on the internet, and it is always registered in your name. You get to choose how it is held. You can keep it in your own account and just give us access to point it at your site, or we can manage it for you so it never expires by accident. Either way you can take it with you anytime.
We cover this in detail in who should hold your domain name.
Your Google Business Profile
This one matters, so we want to be very clear. Your Google Business Profile is yours, always. We manage it as an invited manager on your account. We never own it and we never lock you out of it. If we ever part ways, we simply step off your account. Every review, every photo, and your whole history stays right where it is, because the profile was always yours.
Your reviews and your customers
Your reviews live on Google under your own profile, so they stay with you no matter what. The same goes for your customer calls and the leads your site brings in. Those are your relationships and your records, not ours.
What happens if you leave
Nothing of yours disappears. You keep your domain, you keep your Google profile, you keep your content, and we hand over your website files. The only thing that stops is the ongoing work we do for you each month.
Our local SEO and marketing plans run on a six month commitment, because real results take a few months to build and we want the work to have time to pay off. After those six months you are free to continue month to month or stop. The commitment is about giving the strategy time to work, never about trapping you.
Questions to ask any agency before you sign
- If I cancel, do I keep my website and its files?
- Is my domain registered in my name, and can I move it whenever I want?
- Do you manage my Google profile as a manager, or do you take it over?
- If I leave, what exactly do I walk away with?
If the answers are vague, that is a red flag. With us the answer is always the same. It is yours.
Our Promise
We would rather earn your business every month than trap you into staying. Everything we touch is built to be yours.
